Previously, Director of Marketing for NetSuite, Inc., a Bay Area company that provides integrated ERP solutions as a hosted service to middle market enterprises.Her work included the Services vertical at NetSuite, providing on-demand solutions for service-providing companies. She was a research director at Aberdeen Group in Boston for eight years, focusing on research on ERP and mid-market companies. Her focus there was on the fundamental processes of business operations and strategy, and the effects of technological change and innovation on these processes within the global organization. She has written widely on many areas of technology and business practices.
A veteran in enterprise applications, Ms. Jones has been responsible for technical product marketing and strategic alliance management in several computer companies since 1984. She founded Independent Consulting Services in 1994 to provide marketing services to high tech companies. Prior to a high technology career, Dr. Jones was a university dean, involved in academic administration, research, and teaching.
Dr. Jones is a frequent speaker and is widely published in the U.S. and abroad.
Principal: Jennifer Boyd
Jennifer has more than 20 year of executive-level experience in developing business strategy, change leadership, project management, communications, technical and grant writing, and marketing. Before joined ICS, Jennifer served as Director of Executive Communications and Director of Internal Communications for Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Her clients include the Center for Evidence-based Policy, the Center for Clinical & Translational Research, and the OHSU School of Dentistry. Jennifer has taught Marketing Communications at the University of Oregon. Her expertise includes policy development, health care workforce, global health, and research commercialization. She is a graduate of the Lab2Market Entrepreneurship Academy. Jennifer has a PHD in Modern Letters, an MA in Writing and Rhetoric, and earned her MBA from the University of Oregon.
Dr. Carlos Soares
Principal, Independent Consulting Services
Carlos Soares is a Principal of Independent Consulting Services, a Bay area company focusing on marketing content, strategies, research and analysis. His current focus is on helping companies develop marketing strategies, messaging, and positioning, and create aligned customer-facing content for strategic announcements and corporate campaigns.
Carlos has over twenty years experience in high-tech marketing, spanning server, storage, and software domains at startups and mature companies. He has led teams in planning, creating, and developing messaging and content for integrated marketing communications, across all vehicles—from collateral to press releases, web, and social media. His areas of expertise include:

Carlos’ background includes Cadence Design Systems where his teams created overall messaging for strategic product announcements and corporate campaigns; developed executive presentations, customer collateral, and web content; managed employee communications; and coordinated the web community forums and blogs. At Hitachi Data Systems, he was a key member of the marketing team that successfully transformed the company from a mainframe vendor to its position as a storage industry leader, growing sales to $2.5B in six years. And, at Data General, Carlos worked in a number of marketing and PR roles as the company transitioned from minicomputers to open systems to multi-processor AViiON NUMA servers and packaged solutions, including high-availability clusters and CLARiiON storage.
